Prototype Automation System for Precision Component Assembly

Transforming a manual assembly process into a reliable automated solution that improved product quality, reduced manual handling, and combined multiple manufacturing steps into a single automated process.

Context

A global automotive manufacturer relied on a manual assembly process for a precision chrome component. Multiple manual operations limited process consistency, increased handling, and created quality risks during production.

Challenge

Frequent manual handling caused scratches on the chrome component, leading to quality issues and unnecessary rework. At the same time, several production steps were carried out separately, reducing efficiency and limiting process standardization.

5t-Cube – AI-Powered Predictive Maintenance Platform

Solution

We designed and developed a custom automated prototype enclosed within a transparent safety housing. The system securely positions each component, performs the required trimming using two automated cutting units, and simultaneously inserts the required metal clips within the same production cycle.

By integrating multiple operations into a single automated process, the solution eliminated unnecessary handling while significantly improving consistency and repeatability.

Result

The prototype successfully validated the new manufacturing concept and was subsequently implemented in serial production.

The automated solution continues to operate reliably in production, delivering improved product quality, greater process stability, and increased manufacturing efficiency.
